Honourable Vanterpool said that through the Ministry of Communications and Works, the Government will be concentrating on stabilising the supply of electricity, upgrading the water distribution network, fixing the sewerage system, developing the city of Road Town and seeking means of providing renewable energy.

The exercise jointly organised and executed by the Department of Disaster Management (DDM) and the BVI Red Cross also had the participation of members of the visiting Royal Naval ship, RFA Lyme Bay.

    Commissioner of Motor Vehicles, Mr. Kye Rymer said that the DMV has recognised the fact that times have changed and the department will be modernising the testing procedures for the cone and road tests. He said the DMV met with the various driving schools in the Territory earlier this year to ensure that the schools were aware of the new rules being implemented.

The programme will discuss the main purpose of the CPA, how the Territory will benefit from hosting the conference and the topics and events to take place.

With one week to go, Acting Premier and Minister for Natural Resources and Labour, Dr. the Honourable Kedrick Pickering is calling on the BVI community to continue to participate in the Firearm and Offensive Weapons Amnesty, an initiative spearheaded by the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF).

Delivering opening remarks at the start of the training sessions, DDM’s Information and Education Manager, Ms. Philomena Robertson explained that the course exposes participants to the basic principles of disaster management, disaster planning, conducting damage assessments, designing and executing simulation exercises to test continuity plans, First Aid and emergency communications, as well as health and safety requirements and strict compliance with the BVI Labour Code.

There will be two separate programme dates on Tortola. Tortola Group A commenced from July 6 to 17 at a registration fee of $75 while Tortola Group B will take place from July 20 to 31 and will also include a fee of $75. The programmes will operate daily between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Chief Agricultural Officer, Mr. Bevin Braithwaite said the temporary importation restriction is in accordance with the Animal (Disease and Importation) Act (CAP 88 Section 3(i)).

Primary school may have been easy for some of you.  High school, however, can be daunting; you will learn new subjects, and experience new and different challenges.  Whatever your experiences, keep your focus and always remember the values and principles instilled in you by your parents and reinforced by your teachers.
