Madam Speaker, with your permission I would like to present a bill seeking the suspension of the Virgin Islands Trade Commission Act, 2020. This Act, passed on 8 June 2020, aimed to establish the Virgin Islands Trade Commission, and vest it with critical responsibilities related to business, trade, investment, and consumer affairs within our jurisdiction. The Act came into effect on 21 November 2022, through Statutory Instrument S.I. 103 of 2022.
Following a meeting of the European Union’s (EU’s) Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) today (17 October 2023), the British Virgin Islands (BVI) has been removed from the EU list of non-cooperative tax jurisdictions (Annex I).
The Government of the Virgin Islands has undertaken a Debt Management Self-Assessment to evaluate the various processes and institutions currently in place to guide public debt activities.

The Government of the British Virgin Islands is delighted to announce that the Deputy Premier and Minister for Financial Services, Labour, and Trade, the Hon. Lorna Smith, OBE, will lead a diverse, 17-member delegation on a significant trade mission to Guyana from 30th July to 4th August 2023.
Minister for Financial Services, Labour, and Trade, Honourable Lorna Smith, OBE, demonstrated her commitment to the growth of the financial services sector during the Solutions Forum held on June 27.
