Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley is away from the Territory attending the 43rd Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in Suriname from July 3 to 5.
On behalf of the Government and people of the Virgin Islands, I would like to congratulate the new Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, The Honourable Philip J. Pierre, on his resounding election victory and appointment as Prime Minister. The General Election was yet another triumph of democracy in the Caribbean.
It is with great concern and sadness that I learned of the death of President of the Republic of Haiti Mr. Jovenel Moise who was attacked by assassins and died today. This is a day of profound sadness for the people of Haiti and the Caribbean more widely.

The British Virgin Islands (BVI) has welcomed CARICOM interest in the Commission of Inquiry (COI) currently taking place in the Territory, highlighted in the communiqué of the recently concluded 32nd Intersessional Meeting of the Conference of the Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community on February 24 and 25.
