Mr. Speaker, as you are aware, your Government is committed to the highest standards of transparency and accountability in our handling of the public’s affairs.
As you are aware from previous public statements, the Auditor General undertook a special audit into the Government’s financing of the BVI Airways Agreement which was intended to provide a direct airlift to Miami. This followed a number of concerns raised by a number of people, including myself, about the Government financing of this failed project.

On June 2, our Territory successfully crossed another milestone in the journey of living and working with COVID-19 under the New Regular. We began the phased and controlled reopening of our borders, particularly at the Terrence B. Lettsome International Airport.
I wish to respond to reports being carried in the media over the last two days regarding the issue of the tabling the Auditor General’s Report on Government’s Financing of BVI Airway’s Direct Flights to Miami before the House of Assembly (HOA), and correspondences that I have been forced to write to both the UK Minister for Overseas Territories, Baroness Sugg, as well as to the Governor.

The BVI Airports Authority is advising the travelling public that as mandated by the Government of the Virgin Islands, airports in the Territory will remain operational with several restrictions, until further notice.
The BVI Airports Authority Limited in consultation with the Premier, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie and its Board of Directors chaired by Mr. Bevis Sylvester has decided to close its two (2) outer Airports, namely Auguste George Airport, Anegada and Taddy Bay Airport, Virgin Gorda to international flights effective today, Friday 13th March 2020 for thirty (30) days in the first instance.
