Premier Dr. Hon. D. Orlando Smith, OBE has welcomed the announcement by the UK for a recovery and reconstruction package for the BVI of up to £300 million in loan garauntees and £10 million in grants to support the Territory's recovery after Hurricanes Irma and Maria.

Governor Augustus Jaspert and the Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith, OBE welcomed a new package of recovery and reconstruction support from the United Kingdom (UK) today. 

This week Governor, Gus Jaspert and the Premier, Dr.The Honourable D. Orlando Smith are in London to discuss the next stage of recovery and UK support to date.

Digicel’s Chief Executive Officer for the Caribbean and Central America, Ms. Vannesa Slowey, has expressed her company’s commitment to the BVI over the long-term and plans to overhaul its Information and Communications Technology (ICT) network in the Territory.

The Territory is among countries in the Caribbean region that will benefit from the European Union’s (EU) €300 million development support package following the passage of Hurricanes Irma and Maria.

Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith, OBE, held further discussions with the President of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), Dr. Warren Smith, on a financial package to support the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the BVI after Hurricanes Irma and Maria. 

His Excellency the Governor Augustus Jaspert is away from the Territory on official duties until Monday, December 4.
