BVI Health Services Authority
Release Date:
Thursday, 19 July 2018 - 11:23am

The BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) is in need of twenty (20) Environmental Services Technicians.

The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for ensuring that the facilities, patient rooms, offices and floors are cleaned and mopped on a daily basis. They are also responsible for the laundry, linens and the washing of the scrubs for the staff of the Operating Room.

Director of Hospital Services, Mrs. Cedorene Malone-Smith, said a job fair will be held for Environmental Services Unit, specifically to fill these positions.

Mrs. Malone-Smith said the impact of Hurricanes Irma and Maria resulted in the loss of a number of persons within this unit.  “We have to replace them in order to restore and maintain our core standard so we can continue to deliver appropriate cleaning for the Hospital and the Clinics,” she said.

“I am also looking for a few men, if possible, to be a part of a core group that will focus on the care of the floor which includes scrubbing, buffing and keeping the floor to a certain standard,” the Director said.

Mrs. Malone-Smith added, “For the Environmental Services Technician position, a minimum requirement is a high school diploma. We are seeking persons with experience working in the hotel or yachting industry but if you don’t have any experience we will train you.”

Interested persons are asked to attend the Job Fair dressed in business attire with the relevant documents including a police record, two letters of recommendation, copy of your High School Diploma and a copy of the picture page of your passport.

“Bring everything you think you need to get in the door,” Mrs. Malone-Smith said. She added, “People who come without anything are not going to get as much attention as the person who has everything present with them and I think that it is only fair.”

The Human Resources team will welcome and review the documentation of persons as they arrive and will assist with the assessment to be given to persons of interest.  “We will choose people for the interview and hiring processes based on information gathered at the Job Fair on July 27.”

The Environmental Services Technician works a 12-hour shift from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. or from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. which according to Mrs. Malone-Smith has many advantages. “The plus with 12-hour shifts is that you only work three days in one week and then four days the other week. This gives me the opportunity to put more people on a shift at the same time to support each other, and it gives the employee the opportunity to have a life outside the BVIHSA.”

The Job Fair for the Environmental Services Unit will be held on Friday, July 27 from 10:00 a.m.to 3:00 p.m. in the Lobby of the New Peebles Hospital.

BVI Health Services Authority is committed to delivering excellent, compassionate, client centered healthcare across the Territory.
