Residents of the Virgin Islands are encouraged to wear purple, the international colour of domestic violence awareness, on Friday, October 7 as part of the Domestic Violence Awareness Month activities.
The Office of Gender Affairs in the British Virgin Islands has shared its expertise on gender affairs with the Turks and Caicos following a two-week attachment of the Director of Gender of Turks and Caicos, Mrs. Carolyn Dickenson.
Students in Virgin Gorda participated in a ‘Youth Empowerment Day’ programme organised by the Guidance Counselor at Bregardo Flax Educational Centre, Kia Huggins in collaboration with the Office of Gender Affairs.

The Territory is receiving assistance in its efforts to reduce family violence from the United Nations organisation dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women (UN Women).
The Territory will join the United Nations 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence Campaign as it observes International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on November 25.
The Office of Gender Affairs educated and encouraged the students of Joyce Samuel and Francis Lettsome Primary Schools to be advocates of non-violence.
All residents of the Virgin Islands are reminded to wear a purple article of clothing on Friday, October 16, as part of the Domestic Violence Awareness Month activities. g
