This year’s annual Territory Day celebrations will focus on the importance of being a Virgin Islander in a year when the Territory will go through a constitutional review.

As we begin a new week in a state of lockdown, I would like to thank you all again for continuing to observe the curfew. It is more important than ever that we continue to do so.  As you heard earlier from the Minister for Health and Social Development, we have another confirmed case, taking the total of confirmed cases to three in the Territory. 

Minister for the Overseas Territories Baroness Elizabeth Sugg held a teleconference earlier today with the Premiers and Chief Ministers of the Overseas Territories (OTs) to discuss the response to COVID-19, and how the United Kingdom (UK) can support the OTs response to this crisis.

Mister Speaker, as I continue to keep this Honourable House informed on the matters that affect these beautiful British Virgin Islands, I wish now to update this Honourable House on Brexit through the lens of our economy.

Over 40 BVIslanders living and studying in the United Kingdom turned up for an afternoon meet and greet hosted by Dr. The Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley and the BVI London Office at BVI House in London on November 23 during his first official visit to the UK.

Ms. April Glasgow will represent the Virgin Islands and other Overseas Territories at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office’s (FCO) International Leadership Programme (ILP) in November.

In keeping with my pledge to keep you informed of all matters that are likely to have significant impact on your lives and interests as citizens, I wish to say that today I will be leading a delegation of officials of the Government of the Virgin Islands to the United Kingdom (UK) to discuss the conditions of the loan guarantee, among other areas. 

Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie is away from the Territory attending the annual United Kingdom Overseas Territories Association (UKOTA) Pre-Joint Ministerial Council (JMC) Meeting and the inaugural UK/OT International Trade Summit in the Cayman Islands.

Leaving the European Union with a deal remains a United Kingdom Government (UKG) priority and an agreement has been reached with the EU on an extension until 31 October 2019 at the latest, and crucially with the option to leave earlier as soon as a deal has been ratified.
