Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Andrew A. Fahie has welcomed the final adoption of the United Nations (UN) Resolution on the ‘Question of the British Virgin Islands’ passed by the UN General Assembly on 11^th December at the conclusion of its 76^th session.

The purpose of this briefing this morning is to update you and the Virgin Islands public on the recent trip to the United Kingdom (UK) by a team from the Government, for the annual Overseas Territories (OT) Joint Ministerial Council (JMC), which was the first JMC in-person meeting since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Andrew A. Fahie had the privilege of meeting with some of our brightest young people from the Virgin Islands (VI) studying or working in the United Kingdom (UK).

The Premier of the Virgin Islands Honourable Andrew A. Fahie laid a wreath at the UK’s Remembrance Sunday service at the Cenotaph in London’s Whitehall, on Sunday, 14 November. 

Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie is away from the Virgin Islands from today attending the annual Overseas Territories (OT) Joint Ministerial Council (JMC) in the United Kingdom (UK), which will be the first JMC in-person meeting since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.   

Deputy Premier Dr. the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley has told a meeting of the Fourth Committee (Special Political & Decolonization) at the 76th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York that the United Kingdom (UK) should not go further down the path of colonialism in the Virgin Islands as the UK Government prepares for the outcome of a UK backed-Commission of Inquiry on governance in the Territory.

Deputy Premier Dr. the Honourable Natalio Wheatley has welcomed the conclusions and recommendations of the United Nations (UN) Committee of 24’s (C-24) regional seminar on decolonisation held in St. John’s Dominica from 25^th – 27^th August 2021, which he attended on behalf of Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Andrew A. Fahie.

Following the death of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Endinburgh, the Governor and his Office will observe a period of national morning in respect of his passing.

The Speech from the Throne outlining Government’s Legislative Agenda will be delivered by His Excellency the Governor Mr. Augustus J. U. Jaspert during the First Sitting of the Third Session of the Fourth House of Assembly (HOA) on Thursday, November 5.

Premier and Minister of Finance of the British Virgin Islands, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie, in his capacity as Vice Chair of the Caribbean Development and Cooperation Committee (CDCC), has presented the official report of the CDCC to the Member and Associate Member Countries of ECLAC on October 28 at the virtual 38^th Session of ECLAC, October 26-28.
