Minister for Overseas Territories, Rt Hon Amanda Milling, has arrived in the BVI for a four-day visit between 17 March and 20 March.
The Minister will hold talks with the Premier to discuss the UK-BVI relationship, and the importance of standing together against Russia’s action in Ukraine to ensure that sanctions are imposed with full effect.
The Minister’s official programme includes a visit to Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital where she will meet the Minister for Health, hear from staff at the hospital, and see the UK funded vaccination programme in action. The Minister will also visit the BVI Red Cross to see their renewable energy system, and meet with key members of BVI Government to discuss the finance sector.
Speaking ahead of the visit, Foreign Office Minister for Overseas Territories, Rt Hon Minister Milling said, “I am delighted to be coming to the BVI on what is my first visit to this beautiful Territory. It is a privilege to be the Minister for Overseas Territories and I am proud of the support the UK gives, not least throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, which has had such a huge impact on BVI communities.
“I am keen to learn more about BVI first-hand. I look forward to meeting the people of BVI, to listen, and to understand.”
Minister Milling will meet the Commissioner of Police and visit the Police Marine Unit to hear about their plans to improve maritime security. She will also meet the volunteers of VISAR and take part in a search and rescue boat exercise, before going on to visit Virgin Gorda.
