Mister Speaker, I thank you for the opportunity to update this Honourable House on the progress made to date on the national mangrove replanting efforts to restore their extent throughout the Territory.
Our corals provide vital ecosystem services in the form of food, shoreline protection against wave action, which would erode our beaches and shores and are main attractions to residents and tourists alike.
I am extremely saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Petr Kellner. Mr. Kellner was a very private individual but his love for these Virgin Islands, especially Virgin Gorda, was well known. This love shown was manifested following the devastating hurricanes of 2017 when he jumpstarted recovery efforts by making funds available to start the clean-up process.

The National Parks Trust of the Virgin Islands (NPTVI) launched its first Environmental Atlas which is expected to bring greater awareness of the Territory’s natural landscape and biodiversity.
Director of Agriculture and Fisheries, Mr. Theodore E. James has said that his department was made aware of a video in circulation regarding the illegal capture of seven Green sea turtles which have since been rescued and released.

Marine Biologist in the Environment and Climate Change Unit Ms. Argel Horton is being featured by the Marine Conservation Society along with two (2) other prominent Caribbean Scientists and marine conservationists as they celebrate Black in Marine Science Week 2020, from November 29 to December 5.
