Deputy Premier and Minister for Natural Resources and Labour, Dr. the Honourable Kedrick Pickering attended the first Ocean Risk Summit held in Bermuda from May 8 to 10.

The seabed surrounding Norman Island is the property of the Crown. The Willy T has been moored at the Bight under an annual seabed licence which expired in February, 2018. 

Madame Speaker, I address this Honourable House to report on the progress made in the massive job of cleaning up our beaches and clearing the same of any marine debris which accumulated along our shores.  

The public is reminded that sand mining in the Territory is illegal according to the Beach Protection Ordinance CAP 233.  

The cultural and economical impact of fishing to the Virgin Islands will be celebrated on Fisherman’s Day rescheduled for Sunday, July 16. 

The Acting Chief Conservation Officer is informing the public that Fisherman’s Day 2017 competition and activities have been postponed due to inclement weather.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Natural Resources and Labour, Dr. the Honourable Kedrick D. Pickering has welcomed the commitment to provide the BVI with technical assistance for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14.

Environment Week ended on Saturday June 10, with a solemn Sunrise Praise and Worship Service at the Queen Elizabeth II Park.

The Environment Week Scavenger Hunt around Road Town concluded with participants, winning ‘eco-appreciative’ prizes on Friday, June 9. 

More organisations joined the “Green Pledge” on Thursday, June 8, and were awarded gold stars for “green” habits and successes.
