Premier and Minster of Finance Honourable Andrew A. Fahie said that his visit to the Hertfordshire County Council in the United Kingdom was successful. Premier Fahie was speaking during a press conference on Friday, November 26.

Today, Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Andrew A. Fahie attended the first day of the Joint Ministerial Council meetings in London with the new Minister for Overseas Territories (OTs) The Right Honourable Amanda Milling, and Leaders from other OTs.

Deputy Premier Dr. the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley has told a meeting of the Fourth Committee (Special Political & Decolonization) at the 76th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York that the United Kingdom (UK) should not go further down the path of colonialism in the Virgin Islands as the UK Government prepares for the outcome of a UK backed-Commission of Inquiry on governance in the Territory.

The Government of the Virgin Islands is pleased to inform the public that Mr. Benito Wheatley will continue in his role as Special Envoy of the Premier until December 31, 2022. The extension was agreed by the Cabinet of the Virgin Islands on September 22, 2021.

The British Virgin Islands (BVI) has received strong backing by the United Nations (UN) Special Committee on Decolonization (C-24) regarding the self-governance of the Territory and its right to self-determination at the recently concluded session of the C-24 at UN Headquarters from 14th – 25th June 2021.

The British Virgin Islands (BVI) has been monitoring the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s (OECD) initiative on ‘Tax Challenges Arising from Digitalisation’ and noted with interest the 5th June, 2021 communique of G7 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Communiqué committing to a global minimum tax of at least 15 percent.
