The Criminal Court has heard two matters over three sittings while the Magistrate’s Court has dealt with one matter despite the 14-day, 24-hour lockdown.

Deputy Governor, Mr. David Archer, Jr. met last week with Registrar of the Supreme Court, Mrs. Erica Smith- Penn to discuss the way forward in returning the Jury Bill to the House of Assembly.

A week of activities has been planned by the BVI Supreme Court in conjunction with the BVI Bar Association to mark the 53^rd Anniversary of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court.    

Acting Director of Public Prosecutions, Mrs. Tiffany Scatliffe-Esprit, LL.M. made a presentation on the BVI’s Criminal Justice System at a leadership meeting with officials from Her Majesty’s Customs and the United States Virgin Islands’ Department of Justice.

Chief Justice of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court Honourable Dame Janice M. Pereira, DBE LLD said that shifting the ceremonial opening of the law year from September to January was as a result of challenges the court has experienced since 2017 due to the heightened hurricane activity within the region.
