Mister Speaker, in May 2021, I provided an update on the repairs and upgrades to the Territory’s nine (9) community centres to this Honorable House. I will now provide new information on the progress that has been made since that time and especially in light of the hurricane season that is now in effect.
Eight contractors in the BVI have received invitations to bid for the project to repair the West End Community Centre which serves as a primary emergency shelter for residents in the British Virgin Islands.
Minister for Health and Social Development, Honourable Carvin Malone entertained a courtesy visit by Senior Advisor for Health Emergencies, Dr. Dana Van Alphen along with Mr. Atiba Clarke, both from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) on February 21.
The public is notified that the Valerie O. Thomas Community Centre, (formally the Sea Cow’s Bay Community Centre) is closed from Monday February 10 until further notice due to ongoing renovation and refurbishment work on the building.
