Officials from the BVI Health Services Authority have reported that the year 2020 welcomed two babies on January 1.

Proud parents Crystal Douglas and Jonathan Munro, and Vernisha Walters and Kareem Profitt both welcomed baby girls on the first day of the year.

The first baby of 2020 was born at 11:08 a.m. to Ms. Crystal Douglas.  Baby Munro weighed in at 7 pounds 6 ounces.

“The birth of my daughter on New Year’s Day was a special moment for me,” Ms. Douglas said.  “Dr. McIntosh, my Mid-Wife Nurse Linley and the staff did an amazing job.”

According to Ms. Douglas, even though her baby was overdue, having passed her due date on December 27, she didn’t expect to give birth to the first baby of the year.  “It was a shock to me.  There were other women in labour when I came, but I am happy,” Ms. Douglas said.

Also sharing the New Year baby award is baby Profitt who was born at 1:39 p.m. and weighing in at 4 pounds 9 ounces.  Mother, Ms. Vernisha Walters said that she is excited despite the fact that the baby came early. “Right now the baby is in the Neonatal Unit, but she is doing well,” she said.

Ms. Douglas the mother of the first baby received 2 gift baskets and a $300 Jump Start Account for the baby from the National Bank of the Virgin Islands along with a voucher for Rite Way Supermarket from the Social Services Unit of the hospital.

Ms. Walters, the second mother, received a gift basket and a voucher for Rite Way Supermarket from the BVI Health Services Authority.

The BVI Health Services Authority extends blessings for many years of good health, love and happiness to the families of the children.
