Virgin Islanders interested in pursuing a degree in any discipline offered at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Cave Hill Campus, are invited to apply for the Sir Arthur Lewis Award.

The Sir Arthur Lewis Award offers funding to nationals of the OECS who have gained admission or expect to qualify for entry to the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus in Bridgetown, Barbados.

The award was launched in 2005 to honour the memory of the Caribbean’s most celebrated Economist and Nobel Laureate, the late Sir Arthur Lewis of St. Lucia. Forty persons from the OECS have already benefited from the award made available annually.

Sir Arthur Lewis ranks as one of the most prolific writers in economics and served the University at various periods as an academic principal and Vice-Chancellor.

The award is open for full-time study towards a degree spanning a range of disciplines including Meteorology, Mathematics and Accounting, Chemistry, Political Science, Economics, French, Spanish, Computer Science, Literatures in English and Biology. The award will not be available for persons who wish to pursue studies for a Bachelors in Law (LLB) and Bachelors of Medicine and Bachelors of Surgery (MBBS).

The value of the award shall be equal to the value of the economic cost and tuition fees applicable to the Cave Hill Campus for the duration of the award, or a maximum of three years.

The Campus Committee for Undergraduate Awards at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, will make the selection on the basis of academic merit, demonstrated capacity to complete the course of study and financial need.

Continuation of the award shall be consequent to the awardee’s ability to maintain good conduct and satisfactory academic progress while at the institution.

 Application forms can be obtained from the UWI Open Campus or downloaded from www.cavehill.uwi.edu/financial-aid. Completed forms should be submitted to Head of the Office of Recruitment and Marketing, Janet Caroo, at UWI, Cave Hill Campus, Bridgetown, Barbados.

Deadline for submission of applications is extended to March 30 of the expected year of entry or award.
