Community Encouraged To Run/Walk Towards A Healthier VI

The Ministry of Health and Social Development continues to encourage community based physical activity as a means of achieving a healthier Virgin Islands through its Run/Walk for Health programme.

The goal of the programme is to encourage persons to engage in regular physical activity and is a joint collaboration between the Ministry of Health, Department of Youth Affairs and Sports and the BVI Olympic Committee.   

Registration For Nurses, Midwives And Nursing Assistants Due

The Ministry of Health and Social Development is notifying all Nurses, Midwives and Nursing Assistants working in the Territory that registration for the year 2015 is now due.  Registration can be completed at the Ministry of Health and Social Development located in the Betteto Frett Building on the second floor.  Persons who have already registered can collect their cards at the reception desk.

New Cases Of HIV/AIDS Lowest Since 2007

The Ministry of Health and Social development is reporting the lowest cases of new HIV/AIDS infections since 2007.

Coordinator of the National HIV/AIDS & Sexual Health Programme Mrs. Noelene Levons-Clarke reported that so far this year, only three new cases of HIV have been recorded.

Mrs. Levons-Clarke noted that the Territory is seeing a reduction in the number of new cases and the spread of HIV infection. This achievement she attributes to enhanced public awareness and education spearheaded by the Ministry of Health and Social Development.

New Peebles Hospital Officially Opened And Dedicated On December 17

National Aids Programme Recognizes Students and Volunteers

The National AIDS Programme under the auspices of the Ministry of Health and Social Development hosted an Award Ceremony to recognize the second cohort of students from the University of Washington’s distance learning programme which focused on Leadership and Management in Health. The twenty five healthcare professionals represented the various disciplines within the health sector.
