Chief Fire Officer, Mr. Zebalon McLean and the Manager for the Department of Waste Management, Mr. Greg Massicote have confirmed that there is currently no visible surface fire at the Cox Heath debris site and the smoke has decreased considerably.
As of today, Friday, 11 May 2018, the fire at Cox Heath continues to be contained which means that the threat of the fire spreading has been eliminated at this time. Additional equipment to pump 1000 gallons of sea water per minute directly to the site to completely extinguish the core of the fire is being deployed.
Today we convened a meeting of the National Emergency Operations Centre in response to the fire incident at Cox Heath. I met with local emergency response officials as well as the Chief Fire Officer from the USVI in relation to the response and containment of the fire.

The Department of Disaster Management is advising the BVI community that His Excellency the Governor, on the advice on Director Disaster Management and in consultation with the Honourable Premier, has authorised the activation of National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) at Level 2 in response to the fire at Cox Heath.
