The Virgin Islands joined nearly 400,000 residents of the Caribbean and Latin America on March 11 to participate in Caribe Wave, the annual tsunami preparedness exercise.
Virgin Islands residents are invited to improve their readiness for earthquake and tsunami events by joining the regional Caribe Wave exercise taking place on Thursday March 11.
Residents in Cane Garden Bay are advised that Department of Disaster Management (DDM) officers will be carrying out maintenance and testing of the early warning siren for that community tomorrow, February 16.

A joint venture between local firms Tandem Development and D & B Heavy Equipment Services Limited has been approved to allow for the construction a state-of-the-art National Emergency Operations Centre, announced Premier and Minister for Finance Andrew Fahie at a signing ceremony yesterday afternoon.
Representatives from the Department of Disaster Management (DDM) and the BVI Red Cross (BVIRC) have shared plans for reducing the Territory’s disaster risk in 2021.

Long-time staffer at the Department of Disaster Management (DDM) Mr. Jasen Penn has been appointed to act as the department’s Director effective January 1.
We are indeed blessed today as we can say that we have come through yet another Atlantic Hurricane Season safely and with very few effects on our shores. I think the entire Virgin Islands can feel immensely grateful that storms or hurricanes did not place any additional burdens upon us during what has already been a burdensome year.
