It gives me great pleasure to deliver the 2015 World Environment Day Address for this World Environment Day. World Environment Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972, and first celebrated in 1973. Since then it has been hosted each year by different cities and it serves as a period in which several initiatives are introduced and implemented or others may be recognized for their sustainable benefit to our region.
In May 2015 the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association British Islands and Mediterranean Region (CPA BIMR) were officially invited by The Governor, His Excellency John S. Duncan OBE to deploy an Election Observation Mission to the Virgin Islands (UK) to observe the June general elections. This invitation was supported by the Government and the official Opposition.
I am very pleased to bring you greetings and welcome our overseas delegates to the British Virgin Islands, as you attend the 14th Caribbean Shipping Executives Conference, being hosted by the Caribbean Shipping Association.
Fellow Virgin Islanders and Residents, today the Virgin Islands observes the 19th annual BVI National Day of Prayer. As your Premier, I am calling on all leaders, especially those in Government, churches, businesses and the community to participate in this Territory-wide event.
