Minister for Health and Social Development Honourable Vincent O. Wheatley has said that this year’s Senior Citizen’s Month theme, “Aging Unbound”, is a call to action grounded in shared faith.

“It is a reminder that aging should not be seen as a limitation but rather an opportunity to break free from stereotypes and embrace the endless possibilities that life has to offer guided by the love and the grace of God,” Honourable Wheatley said while addressing the Territory’s seniors at a Church Service and Declaration for Senior Citizen’s Month on Monday.

The Minister for Health added, “Let us take a moment to give thanks for the invaluable contributions our senior citizens have made to our communities. They have shaped the spiritual, social, and economic landscape we cherish today. Their wisdom, experience and resilience continue to inspire and guide us in our journey.”

Meanwhile, Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley, has said that the senior citizens of the Virgin Islands are gems who built the Territory to where it currently is and for that they deserve to be celebrated and accommodated.

Premier Wheatley said, “It is on their shoulders that we stand. We must ensure that we cherish our seniors who represent a bridge to the past.”

The Premier added, “Our seniors hold the key for what they used to be and what we still can be today if we hold to God's unchanging hand and stand on his promises. Our seniors are truly our golden gems, and, in many ways, they are a treasure for our Virgin Islands. We owe everything we have today to our elders.”

The month of May marks the 34th anniversary of the celebration of Senior Citizen’s Month in the Virgin Islands.

The Ministry of Health and Social Development remains committed to celebrating and putting mechanisms in place to ensure senior citizens are essential to the advancement and development of the Virgin Islands.
