The Government of the Virgin Islands seeks a qualified and experienced legal professional to fill the temporary role of Pro Tem Chairperson for the Labour Arbitration Tribunal.

LABOUR ARBITRATION TRIBUNAL

The Labour Arbitration Tribunal is an independent body established under the Labour Code 2010. It resolves labour disputes efficiently, fairly, and impartially, upholding the rights of employees and employers. The Tribunal handles issues like unfair dismissal, redundancy, and workplace discrimination.

Tribunal hearings are conducted by the Chairperson, either alone or with two accredited Labour Arbitrators (the full panel). Individuals and parties have the same rights as they would in court.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Preside over and manage labour arbitration hearings in relation to two specific disputes.
  • Issue witness summonses.
  • Ensure fair and impartial proceedings.
  • Render clear, well-reasoned decisions within a timely manner.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • An attorney-at-law of at least ten years’ standing.

  • Strong analytical and legal reasoning skills.
  • Ability to interpret and apply relevant laws and regulations.
  • Excellent    oral      and      written communication skills.
  • Ability   to   clearly   and   effectively communicate complex information.
  • High ethical standards and integrity.
  • Commitment to fairness and justice.
  • Effective time management skills to meet Tribunal deadlines.
  • Trustworthiness and confidentiality
  • Ability to make sound, fair, and equitable legal decisions.

TERMS OF SERVICE

  • Three-month term with a requirement to adjudicate two specific disputes.
  • Applicants will be vetted for conflicts of interest.
  • Draft orders and awards, as necessary.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION

$2,500 monthly compensation
