The public is urged to prepare and consume food safely this holiday season.

  • Allow one pound of turkey per person.

  • Purchase turkey two to four days before you cook it.

  • Keep turkey stored in the freezer/refrigerator until you are ready to prepare.

  • Place it in a container to catch juices that may leak.

    How to defrost your frozen turkey/chicken:

    •   Remove frozen food from freezer and put at bottom of fridge.

    •   Defrost frozen turkey in the refrigerator/chiller/cooler.

    •   Run water over the turkey. Do not soak in water to defrost.
