More than twenty teachers and education officers are undergoing a springboard Promethean Master Educator Training as the Ministry of Education and Culture works to implement information and communication technology throughout the education system.

Promethean World Education Consultant, Ms. Noel Doglione, is facilitating the three day training session which ends on Friday.  The staff of the Virgin Islands School of Technical Studies also participated in a Promethean Intermediate Educator Training on Thursday, February 18.

Minister for Education and Culture, Honourable Myron V. Walwyn said that technology allows learning to take place anytime and anywhere and infuses the classroom with rich, dynamic, interactive digital content.

Minister Walwyn added, “The way that our children are learning has changed significantly and it is time that we change along with it. It is time that we instil 21st century skills and prepare every child to be ready for careers and the real world where technology is interminably present.”

Consultant Ms. Noel Doglione works with Promethean as an Educational Consultant where she relates classroom experiences with infusing technology. She said that the use of Promethean boards in the classroom reflects a connected, knowledge sharing community that is no longer confined to the boundaries of the physical classroom space.

Ms. Doglione added, “Technology is getting better and better every day. We are witnessing a transformation in the creation and sharing of knowledge that is being fueled by the impact of technology because of the way that it brings the real world right into the classroom.”

A pilot Information Communication Technology programme was introduced in Grade 5 of eight primary schools last year, to integrate technology in the everyday learning of students.

Since then, the Minister OF Education and Culture has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with telecommunication providers, LIME, Digicel and CCT to provide internet access to all public schools in the Territory. The Minister also announced the extension of the ICT programme to all primary schools across the Territory.

The Promethean Master Educator training in the field of education allows for educators to effectively deliver a varied course catalog and guides them through an effective and valuable professional development experience. Promethean's professional development engages educators in professional learning that is guided by their needs and requirements to help them seamlessly integrate technology into curriculum and instruction.

The Ministry of Education and Culture continues to create a culture of excellence within the education system and continues to ensure that students are prepared for their places in society.
