Statement
STATEMENT BY THE OFFICE OF THE DEPUTY GOVERNOR
ON
THE SUPPORT OF THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH & SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT’S
PUBLIC HEALTH UNIT’S RELOCATION
FRIDAY, 4TH MARCH, 2022
The Office of the Deputy Governor remains committed to supporting the Ministry of Health and Social Development with the eminent move of the Public Health Unit to a new location. During this period in our Territory’s history, the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic have been ably navigated by members of the Public Health team, who have contributed significantly to the well-being and safeguarding of our community.
Our office has supported the Ministry of Health and Social Development with the imminent move of the Public Health Unit to an interim location until the renovation of the R.T O’Neal Administration Building is completed. In doing so, on 9th November, 2021, representation was made by a small fraction of the Unit to ensure certain issues identified would be addressed before the move to the new location occurred. The Ministry took on this predatory task over a period of four months in a successful manner. As a result, on Thursday 3rd March, a meeting was held with a representative of some staff of the Public Health Unit, the Acting Chief Medical Officer and the Deputy Governor and an agreed positive conclusion was reached regarding the move. The engagement also included a brief meeting with other staff members present in the office.
We would, again, like to thank the men and women of the Public Health Unit and other healthcare professionals for their time and commitment to the welfare of our community as we navigate the changing developments that the Pandemic presents. Your invaluable contributions are appreciated by the citizens, residents and the Government of the Virgin Islands
