Chevening Scholarship Announcement
On the 7 September, His Excellency, the Governor John Rankin, held an event at Government House to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Chevening Scholarship. Previous alumni were in attendance, and the Governor announced this year’s recipients, Keon August and Cedric King.
Keon August and Cedric King, were both invited as guests of honour to the Chevening event, with the Governor, Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs and Sports, Honourable Sharie B. de Castro and previous alumni wishing them well on their upcoming move and studies. Mr Keon August will be studying for a MSc in Organisational Project Management at Bournemouth University and Mr Cedric King will be studying for a MSc in Cyber Security at University of Bradford.
Chevening Scholarships are awarded to individuals from all backgrounds and ages, who can demonstrate that they have the commitment and skills required to create positive change and can show how a UK master’s degree will help them do that. The scholarship offers full financial support for scholars to study for any eligible master’s degree at any UK university whilst also gaining access to a wide range of exclusive academic, professional, and cultural experiences.
Since the programme was created in 1983, over 50,000 alumni have had the opportunity to develop in the UK through Chevening. There are more than 1,500 scholarships on offer globally for the 2024/2025 academic year.
Virgin Islanders interested in applying for the Chevening Scholarship should visit chevening.org/apply. The application window for the 2024/2025 scholarship programme will open on 12 September and close on 7 November 2023.

‘I am glad that we could host this event to celebrate the 40th anniversary. There is no such thing as a ‘typical’ Chevening scholar. There is no age, race, gender, or religious requirement. Chevening Scholars are defined by their energy, curiosity, compassion a clear vision for their future.
If you are passionate about driving change, whether on a local or global scale, if you want to be the best at what you do and if you have the imagination to inspire others, then a Chevening scholarship could be the perfect opportunity for you.
‘Successful applicants will join the Chevening alumni network, full of dynamic influencers who share the same experience. They can offer encouragement, mentorship, advice, and contacts.
‘There is a lot to gain from submitting a thoughtful application and I would encourage interested persons to visit chevening.org and apply before the 7 November deadline.’

Chevening Scholarships are the UK Government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), partner organisations, and partner universities. The scholarships support study at UK universities – mostly one year taught master's degrees – for individuals with demonstrable potential to become future leaders, decision-makers, and opinion formers.
Chevening began in 1983 and has developed into a prestigious international awards scheme. Chevening Scholars come from over 160 countries and territories worldwide, and over the past five years we have awarded almost 10,000 scholarships. There are over 50,000 Chevening Alumni around the world who comprise an influential and highly regarded global network.
The name 'Chevening' comes from Chevening House in Sevenoaks, Kent – currently the joint official residence of the UK’s Foreign Secretary.
