Press Release
Parents and guardians of students attending the Bregado Flax Educational Centre (BFEC) Secondary Division are being encouraged to spend a minimum of one hour in their child’s classroom on National Parent Involvement Day on November 19.
This is the first time the school is observing National Parent Involvement Day which is being held under the theme, ‘Show them you care’. The school’s counsellor, Ms. Kya Huggins is encouraging parents to support the initiative. She said, “I am looking forward to seeing how much participation we receive considering it is our first time. It really is a great initiative to get parents more involved with their child’s learning. We want the children to see that parents support their education.”
Ms. Huggins explained, “The main objective of the observance is to help parents and guardians get a better understanding of how their children are learning in the classroom.”
She added, “Parents and guardians need to experience the present classroom setting to better identify with their child’s learning environment rather than referring to their own experience when they attended school.”
Ms. Huggins said that each parent and guardian will soon receive a form that they are expected to fill out to indicate their preferred visitation time. Time slots are from 8:50 a.m. to 9:50 a.m.; 10:05 a.m. to 11:05 a.m.; 11:05 a.m. to 12:05 p.m.; 1:10 p.m. to 2:10 p.m.; and 2:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.
For more information, parents and guardians are asked to contact Ms. Huggins at 468-6561.
National Parental Involvement Day was founded by Project Appleseed and has been observed in the United Stated of America for twenty years.
Bregado Flax Educational Centre’s observation is in line with the Ministry of Education and Culture’s commitment to ‘Create a Culture of Excellence’.
