The Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) Drama Society will host a series of original plays with the theme, ‘A Wild Wild West: Tea Party with a Twist’ this Saturday, March 25.

The plays will include the re-creation of classic children stories including Shrek, Mulan, Little Red Riding Hood, and Pocahontas.

Playwright and English/Drama Instructor at the Elmore Stoutt High School, Mrs. Janice George-Harris said the four plays were written and will be acted and directed by the members of the ESHS Drama Society.

“The students have worked hard on these productions and I am really proud of them. Their creative minds were pushed to the limit having to find ways to recreate classics and make them fit into a specific theme,” Mrs. George-Harris said.

She added that the students will be judged for the productions based on the approach, creativity and popularity.

“There will be an in-house competition for the students where they will be judged based on the approach to the classic; specifically focusing on how well they were able to rewrite the classic. Additionally, we are looking for spontaneity and creativity and how well the audience responds to the content.”

Mrs. George-Harris said that students have full control over the productions including painting and designing the set, along with writing and directing the plays. She added that teachers assisted the students in facilitating the process with the costume and set design.

The play productions will be held at the Elmore Stoutt High School Campus under the Assembly Tent on Saturday, March 25 at 3:00 p.m.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased on site. The entrance fee allows persons to see two plays with a snack and a drink and the option to choose an activity. Persons desirous of viewing more plays and purchasing snacks can do so at the ticket booth on campus.

Proceeds made from the event will go towards the ESHS Drama Society’s Annual Drama Dinner. The winning group from the in-house competition will be awarded at the annual dinner in June.

For more information, persons should contact Mrs. Janice George-Harris, Ms. Lyneth Smith or Mr. Ron Grant at the Elmore Stoutt High School at telephone number 468-3701 ext. 2740.
