Press Release
Residents in Virgin Gorda will once again have a functional sporting facility to host basketball and other recreational sports.
The Recovery and Development Agency (RDA) working with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture awarded Rufred Forbes and Associates Limited with the contract for construction works to the Virgin Gorda Sports Complex.
Mr. Rufred Forbes, RDA’s Chief Executive Officer Mr. Paul Bayly, and Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture Honouraable Natalio Wheatley signed the contract on June 20 in the sum of $665,344.78.
The scope of works for this project includes the demolition and commencement of the roof installation, installation of roofing and wall paneling, painting, electrical works and repairs to the seating area.
Works are scheduled to commence as early as this month and are anticipated to be completed by November.
Chief Education Officer in the Ministry of Education Ms. Connie George was among officials present to witness the signing.
The Virgin Gorda Sports Complex originally opened in 2015. In 2017, hurricanes damaged 90% of the steel framed building which was semi-enclosed with insulated wall and roof paneling.
The completion of repairs to the Virgin Gorda Sports Complex will ensure quality access to sporting facilities for the Virgin Gorda.
This project is a part of RDA’s commitment to support the rebuilding of the BVI Stronger, Smarter, Greener, Better.
