Minister for Transportation, Works and Utilities, Honourable Kye M. Rymer has stated that his ministry will continue works to upgrade the Road Town Sewerage project next month.

The minister while addressing a community meeting at the Elmore Stoutt High School last week said with the continued growth of the population and subsequent developments in the Long Bush, Joe’s Hill and surrounding environs, the existing system is below capacity and requires an upgrade.

 “Developments are ongoing in the Territory, such as the Social Security Project on Joe’s Hill, and the growth of businesses within our community notwithstanding the continual growth of our Territory,” the Minister said, adding, “We are here working to make sure, that when these projects come online, our sewerage system will be accommodating.”

Honourable Rymer added, “We understand what sewerage is to any Territory, and I must acknowledge the work that was done by the Ministry to address the sewerage issues. It was just a few weeks ago that some rehabilitation to the Pasea sewerage line was done.”

Works are expected to commence by early May barring no delay in the arrival of materials.  Traffic will be rerouted, as the segment of Main Street will be closed to include Flemming Street with one lane being used.

The Minister of Works said there will be some disruptions in the system, and is asking the public’s patience with the works that will be taking place. He said information on the project will be provided to the public on a regular basis.

“We have collaborated with the utility companies in the vicinity to ensure that there is synergy when the work commences.  We anticipate the works to begin two weeks upon receiving the designated manholes on order in route to the Territory, all the pipes for the project have been procured and we are ready to go,” Honourable Rymer said.

It is anticipated that the works will produce a substantial amount of dust, and as part of the project plan there will be daily watering of the site area to provide dust abatement measures during the course of works.

The project is expected to begin from the foot of Joe’s Hill towards the junction of Main Street and Flemming Street, onwards to the Roundabout yielding the installation of approximately 1,100 linear feet of new sewer lines inclusive of manholes.

Residents are encouraged to adhere to all warning signs, notices and guidelines given by traffic personnel and to visit the Government’s social media pages for current updates about this project.
