The Virgin Islands Public Service Learning Institute (VIPSLI) has completed a Public Service 101 course on Jost Van Dyke.

The institute has now hosted the course on three of the Territory’s four main islands, with plans to include Anegada in the coming weeks.

Public officers on Jost Van Dyke who serve across various critical departments received detailed information during the three-day course about Government’s systems, framework and best practices as a public officer, and a wide array of knowledge that would assist them in achieving success.

Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Sharleen DaBreo-Lettome, MBE commented on the success of Public Service 101 thus far and reiterated the Department of Human Resources’ commitment to ensuring public officers across the Territory receive learning and development opportunities.

Mrs. DaBreo-Lettome said, “Public officers, especially those serving on our Sister Islands, play a critical role in the successful delivery of the Government’s services to our communities. Through the institute, the Department of Human Resources is moving steadily to ensure that every public officer, on every island is afforded the opportunity to develop themselves personally and professionally.”

Interim Director of the Virgin Islands Public Service Learning Institute, Dr. Connie E. George said, “The completion of this edition of Public Service 101 underscores our commitment to ensuring public officers are well learned about the organisation in which they work. The Public Service 101 course is a vital starting point as we seek to advance the work of the Public Service.”

The institute has hosted five Public Service 101 sessions, including one tailored to educators since its launch in 2023. To date, over 500 public officers have earned Essential Learning Hours through their attendance at Public Service 101.

The Virgin Islands Public Service Learning Institute’s vision is, “To develop a world-class Public Service filled with highly skilled and adaptable officers.”

The Government of the Virgin Islands is committed to building a world-class Public Service through continuous learning and development opportunities.
