Water and Sewerage

Residents of the Virgin Islands are expected to be made more aware of the importance of water in various occupations during the observation of World Water Day on Tuesday, March 22.

The World Water Day campaign in the Territory is a collaboration between the Water and Sewerage Department and the Department of Conservation and Fisheries. This year’s event is being presented on the international theme “Water and Jobs”.

The Water and Sewerage Department extends a public invitation for all to attend an event at the Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement Park in Road Town and be informed on how water affects the economy which includes the environment, health, agriculture and trade. 

Persons are welcomed to visit the park on March 22, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to view the different exhibitions on water treatment, water-efficient appliances and environmentally friendly habits.

Public Relations Officer for the Water and Sewerage Department, Ms. Carolyn Scatliffe said that in addition to the celebration on March 22, the department will be visiting schools, facilitating guided tours of water plants and hosting an open house.

She added, “During the week of March 20, the department will be giving away prizes to winners of its Facebook trivia at www.facebook.com/viwaterandsewerage. In addition to answering the questions, participants must ‘LIKE’ the page to be eligible to win.”

The worldwide campaign for Water Day is usually observed through a variety of events and activities including visual art, theatrical and musical celebrations of water, excursions to the local ponds, lakes, rivers and reservoirs.

The department continues its water conscious campaign and is committed to educating the public on proper water usage and conservation.
