Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable Dr. Natalio D. Wheatley is attending the funeral of former USVI Senator Alicia “Chucky” Hansen, on behalf of the Government and people of the Virgin Islands.

Premier Wheatley’s attendance is a demonstration of solidarity with the Territory’s neighbours in the United States Virgin Islands, with whom Virgin Islanders share mutual interests, cultural and historical bonds.

The Premier publicly expressed his sympathy during a press conference on October 6 and stated that Senator Hansen “had roots in Long Look, and she did not keep this a secret.”

Premier Wheatley said Senator Hansen was extremely proud of her roots in Long Look, and maintained a close relationship with the Territory. The 11-term Senator consistently participated in events such as the Inter Virgin Islands Council and the USVI/BVI Friendship Day celebrations.

The Premier said over the course of her exceptional political career, Senator Hansen portrayed attributes of commitment, people-centeredness, and passion. He added that her passing represents a significant loss not only for the residents of the United States Virgin Islands, but for the Greater Virgin Islands.

Premier Wheatley is accompanied by Minister for Health and Social Development, Honourable Vincent O. Wheatley and Deputy Secretary in the Premier’s Office, Dr. Lavon Chalwell-Brewley.

The Government and the people of the Virgin Islands extend condolences and sympathises with the loved ones of the late Senator Hansen and its neighbours in the United States Virgin Islands during this time.
