Transformation Of The Public Service: We Are One Government

It is often said that “success is not a destination, but rather a journey”.

Today marks the continuation of that journey towards success for the Government of the Virgin Islands in demonstrating our unity and strength as One Government, with One Identity, delivering a unique brand of One Public Service.

I like this new, unified direction that we are moving in. It has long been my vision for the Government of the Virgin Islands to deliver a “One- Stop-Shop” experience to all of our customers. We started it in the financial services industry, and I am pleased to see that it will soon be reflected in all sectors of Government.

Today, we sound the clarion call that the transformation of our public service has begun, where there will be a marked change in the appearance and delivery of our services to the clients we serve.

What does this mean for all of us with the launch of our ‘One Government’ brand?

It means that we work at all times, towards one common vision and goal – quality service delivered with integrity, professionalism and transparency.

It means being responsive to our customers and delivering quality, timely and efficient service to each of them, whether they are based locally, regionally or internationally.

It means that we must consistently embrace a work culture that promotes our values of teamwork, dedication, respect, love for what we do, and the services we provide.

I believe as One Government that we can achieve this. I believe that each of us can help to transform our public service into an extraordinary organisation that is aligned with current global trends. I believe that we have the right blend of expertise and skills to do so.

In many ways we have already started, and we must continue to move in this direction. The world will continue to evolve and we must evolve with it.

In evolving we must continue to find ways to improve the standards for best practices in our areas of expertise, and be even more proactive, professional and proficient in this dynamic environment.

Public officers, our Territory’s success as ‘One Government, One Public Service and One BVI’ is possible; and it depends on each of us, as a vital link, doing our part. That is, everyone working together and sharing ideas to arrive at one solution.

This morning, I also want to congratulate a very special cadre of persons. These are our long service award recipients and retirees, persons who have dedicated at least 10 and up to 35 years of service taking care of the people of the Territory through their respective roles as public officers.

To all of our honourees, on behalf of the Government and people of the Virgin Islands I thank you for your commitment and shared vision for a progressive and successful Territory. During your time with us, you have committed yourselves and given your very best. We thank you.

It is due to your resourcefulness and willingness that helped to build a culture of excellence within the Public Service, and today we pay tribute to you for your dedication and perseverance.

I especially congratulate our retirees on this milestone in their careers. As you move onto the next chapter of your lives, I urge you to remain available to mentor and share your wisdom with the next generation of public officers who are looking up to you.

Public officers, this week is a tremendous celebration of camaraderie in a spirit of togetherness that truly reflects our vision of One Government.

Let us harness this spirit of unity beyond this week of activities, and continue to channel it into our various roles within the public service so that we can all make progress together.

Thank you.
