Premier of the Virgin Islands, Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith, OBE has extended congratulations to the newly elected Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas the Rt. Honourable Dr. Hubert A. Minnis.

The Premier, in a letter to the new Prime Minister this week, said: “I further extend best wishes…for a successful term, as you work to secure social and economic growth and development goals for your people.”

The letter also stated: “The people of the Bahamas have overwhelmingly responded to your call for them to believe in a better future for your country. Through a career in service to the people, you have consistently demonstrated your commitment to serve, and the citizens of the Bahamas have now affirmed their confidence in your ability to lead them at this time.”

Premier Smith offered best wishes for the success of Dr. Minnis’ administration, and also extended congratulations to members of the Free National Movement.

Dr. Hubert Minnis was sworn in last Thursday and is the country’s fourth Prime Minister since becoming independent in 1973. 

The Government of the Virgin Islands has affirmed its commitment to strengthening international relationships, in positioning the Territory for the future.
