The National Council of the Girls’ Brigade continues to receive support from the Premier’s Office and will be hosting its annual Adult Enrichment Hospitality Host and Hostess Seminars for persons 18 years and older.

This year’s event is scheduled from September 7 to September 11, and again from September 21 to September 25. It will be followed by an awards ceremony for participants on Sunday, September 27, to be held under the patronage of Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith, OBE.

Premier Smith said that he is pleased to collaborate with the National Council of the Girls’ Brigade for the event and stated that he is delighted to see that the National Council of the Girls Brigade continues to partner with professionals within the hospitality and tourism sectors to facilitate this annual seminar.

The Premier said, “These types of seminars are essential in helping our people to build or refine their hospitality skills, thus enhancing personal development. I encourage members of the community to take advantage of the hospitality training sessions. Even if persons do not directly interact with tourists daily, the hosting skills learned will enrich and expand their life experiences.”

Premier Smith added that he is also hopeful that graduates of the seminar will be so inspired, that some new businesses will emerge to help grow the Territory’s hospitality and tourism sectors.

Training Manager for the National Council of the Girls’ Brigade, Mrs. Janice Nibbs-Blyden, said the seminar will expose participants to a number of skills including table-setting; appropriate food choices for breakfasts, lunches, dinners, cocktail and tea parties; and preparation of desserts.

The Training Manager is encouraging persons to register and participate in the seminar, which will be held from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. each evening at Maria’s by the Sea Restaurant.

Mrs. Blyden stated, “When you come you will find other adults who you will sit with, and in an environment conducive to learning something new. It is also a life enriching experience that is truly an exciting opportunity for persons who love to entertain.”

She added, “If you enjoy entertaining and cooking, you will learn to prepare recipes that will enlighten the palette and that you can serve with style.”

The sessions will be facilitated by professionals in the hospitality and tourism sectors, and will explore food preparation, along with techniques for hosting various types of events. Additionally, participants will also learn about different types of wines and how they are served. Trainers include Mrs. Janice Brathwaite-Edwards, Mrs. Marriet Smith, Ms. Kimberly Kuntz, Chef Henry Prince, Chef Arden Davis, Chef Wilford ‘Willo’ Stoutt, Mr. Alistair McMaster, Mr. Kenneth Molleneaux and Ms. Jamila Vanterpool.

Participants will be required to pay a fee of $120 to help defray the costs of hosting the seminar.
