Cable trenching for the Phase V Power Development programme is expected to reach George’s Hallow road, located near the Ebenezer Thomas Primary School on March 5.

The road will be closed for a period of three weeks for on-going works that are expected to be completed by March 27.

The project’s contractor has been instructed to accelerate all work in the general area for the purpose of avoiding disruption to school activities and access to school grounds and residences in the area.

Works will continue over to the Paul P. Wattley Road and into Long Bush to facilitate the installation of a new interconnecting transmission cable from Pockwood Pond power station to the Long Bush power station. This element of the project is to upgrade the power distributing capacity of the British Virgin Islands Electricity Corporation’s grid and works are said to be currently on schedule.

Residents in areas beyond the school are asked to proceed with caution, adhere to all safety signs and follow the instructions of road officers in the affected area, while works are in progress.

Road works associated with the installation of the transmission cables are expected to continue until April 30. K-Line International and their sub-contractors Sandwise BVI Limited are undertaking the works.

The Government of the Virgin Islands is advising the public to conserve energy whenever possible, including switching to LED lights or turning off lights and appliances when they are not in use.
