More than one thousand public officers were hosted in training sessions held by the Virgin Islands Public Service Learning Institute (VIPSLI) in the first half of 2024.

The Institute has trained 1410 public officers since January in various ground-breaking learning initiatives including a wide range of sessions held weekly. Public Officers were given the opportunity to participate in online trainings and were able to travel internationally to attend conferences that aid in the advancement of their skills.

Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Sharleen DaBreo-Lettsome MBE said, “This is a significant achievement for learning and development in the Public Service. The learning institute is a firm representation of our commitment to building a Public Service that not only meets the needs of today’s Virgin Islands, but one that can stand the test of time and be proven as a sustainable model for service that supports the Virgin Islands of the future.”

The Public Service is also focusing on an improvement in Customer Service this year, as the institute will also implement a comprehensive Customer Service Training Programme, in collaboration with the Director of Public Service, Ms. Kedimone Rubaine. These trainings will target customer-facing officers, in an effort to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to continually deliver exceptional Customer Service.

Interim Director of the Virgin Islands Public Service Learning Institute, Dr. Connie E. George said, “We are unwavering in our commitment to advancing the Public Service’s knowledge and skills. Public officers across the Territory are benefitting from unique opportunities to develop their abilities within their fields, and explore options for broadening their horizons.”

The Virgin Islands Public Service Learning Institute was launched in August 2023 to stand as the instructional and governing body for the training and development of all new and existing public officers. The institute aims to ensure officers have the necessary skills and abilities needed to carry out their duties.
