Motorists and users of the Territory’s roads are urged to exercise caution as the Government of the Virgin Islands continues with its road works and sewerage line upgrades.

Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Communications and Works, Mr. Anthony McMaster said that it is important for the community to keep abreast of the upcoming and on-going road works and closures by listening to and tuning into the different media channels including the Government’s webpage, radio stations and the BVI Community Board on Facebook.

The following are upcoming and on-going road works being undertaken by the Ministry of Communications and Works in collaboration with the Public Works Department and the Water and Sewerage Department. Motorists are asked to drive with extreme caution and to follow road signs in these areas.

  • A nightly road closure is scheduled for the inner lanes of the James Walter Francis Dual Carriage-way near the Red Cross from 8:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 2 to Sunday, March 5. The purpose of this closure is to facilitate sewerage line upgrades.
  • Road Works have commenced in Spring Ghut and will be executed between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Road works are expected to commence in Greenland to reinstate the road on Thursday, March 2 until Friday, March 10. One-lane traffic will be permitted.
  • Road works will continue in Upper Horsepath for rehabilitation works and are expected to last for six months. These works are located in the Vicinity of Marcia Blyden’s residence.

Motorists are also asked to take the suggested alternate routes into and out of Road Town and to refrain from parking on sidewalks.

The Permanent Secretary said work is progressing in Nottingham Estate and Lee Road, Virgin Gorda under the Caribbean Development Bank Loan.

He added that infrastructural work continues in East End on the National Sewerage project as installation work on the force mains continue.

Motorists are being asked to drive with extreme caution and to follow road signs in these areas.
