The Ministry of Health and Social Development has signed a contract for the processing and transportation of derelict vehicles from the temporary derelict vehicle site in Havers.

 The contract valued at $110,000 was awarded to Shaquille Stoutt of ENS Excavation Trucking and is part of the Government of the Virgin Islands’ ongoing commitment to sustainable waste management, public health, and environmental safety.

Minister for Health and Social Development, Honourable Vincent O. Wheatley welcomed the initiative, stating that the removal of derelict vehicles is a critical step in ensuring a healthier and safer environment for our residents.

Honourable Wheatley said, “Abandoned vehicles not only pose environmental risks but also impact the visual appeal of our communities. This contract represents our commitment to sustainable waste management and reinforces our dedication to improving the quality of life in the Virgin Islands. We thank ENS Excavation Trucking for partnering with us on this important initiative."

The company will facilitate the removal of approximately 500 derelict vehicles from temporary derelict sites in Havers. The works were tendered in February, 2025, and ENS Excavation Trucking was the successful company selected to carry out the project.

By efficiently removing abandoned vehicles, this initiative aims to reduce potential health and environmental hazards, enhance community aesthetics, and contribute to the overall well-being of residents.

Proper waste management remains a priority for the government as it continues to implement measures that promote a cleaner and safer Virgin Islands. The ministry, in collaboration with the Department of Waste Management, will oversee the execution of the project to ensure its timely and efficient completion.
