MESSAGE FROM PREMIER AND MINISTER OF FINANCE
HONOURABLE DR. NATALIO D. WHEATLEY
TO EDUCATORS ON WORLD TEACHERS’ DAY
Thursday, October 5, 2023
The Government and people of the Virgin Islands join with the rest of the world in salute to our esteemed educators today on World Teachers’ Day 2023. This occasion is observed annually on October 5 to celebrate all educators for their dedication and commitment to building well-rounded citizens.
The 2023 theme is, "The Teachers We Need For The Education We Want: The Global Imperative To Reverse The Teacher Shortage." It is aimed at raising awareness of the global teacher shortage and advocating for policies that will attract and retain more teachers.
Today, the Government and people of the Virgin Islands celebrate the incredible educators in the Virgin Islands education system who continually light the path of knowledge for our students. Each lesson you impart is a building block for a brighter future, every encouraging word a beacon of hope, and every challenge you help your student overcome is a testament to your resilience and dedication.
Thank you for shaping the minds of tomorrow. We celebrate your passion, commitment and the positive impact you make as your tireless efforts are the foundation of our schools’ successes.
Any progress or individual accomplishment, I have made is owed in large part to my teachers, including my mother, who was my first teacher. I also had the distinct privilege of being an educator in the education system and I understand the sacrifices and the dedication required of our teachers in order to facilitate the education on the nation.
My Government salutes you the men and women who have committed yourselves to the upliftment of our children, including my children who are both students in the public education system. We will continue to put measures in place to address your concerns as we work together to uplift the education sector in the Virgin Islands.
Teachers, we appreciate the countless sacrifices, the late nights spent grading papers, the extra mile you go to ensure every student's success. You are amazing, steadily making creative impacts in the life of these young minds.
To the world, you may just be a teacher, but to your students, you are heroes and may your passion for teaching continue to light the way for countless students.
So, as we observe International Teachers’ Day we come together not just to express gratitude and appreciation, but to recognise the profound impact that you the Territory’s educators have on our lives and the future of our Virgin Islands. May God continue to bless you as you continue to mold lives for the future.
Happy World Teachers’ Day
