Release Date:
Wednesday, 7 February 2018 - 11:27am

Motorists who are interested in having their licences upgraded can do so at the Department of Motor Vehicles’ (DMV) “Upgrade Day”.

Commissioner, Mr. Kye Rymer said there is a need for the service especially after the hurricanes, where more persons are now operating heavier equipment.

Mr. Rymer said, “In an effort to have these persons operating legally, we believe this upgrade day is vital.”

He said licence upgrade means that a licenced driver may upgrade from one licence class to a higher licence class. The basic licence class starts at Class F.

Mr. Rymer added, “Usually, persons start with a class F licence which is for an ‘Automatic only car’. However, if they are now desirous to operate a manual vehicle, an upgrade of that licence class is essential.”

He further added that the procedure entails that persons are tested on that class of vehicle and if successful an E class licence would be granted.

Persons interested in upgrading their licence must present their valid driver’s licence and make the necessary payment at the DMV before Wednesday, February 14 in order to reserve an appointment for the “Upgrade Day” on February 15.

For more information about upgrading your licence, please contact the Department of Motor Vehicles at 468-4080.
