Students will have further learning support through ‘Learning Hub Online’, an eLearning and online test preparation system, which was launched at the Althea Scatliffe Primary School earlier today.

Learning Hub Online gives students, Grades 4 through 12, access to all reading materials for core subjects such as Mathematics, English, Social Studies and Science at the primary level, and all subjects at the secondary level including Financial Services, Tourism, Virgin Islands Studies and Civics, as well as all CSEC and CAPE subjects.

Some features of the programme include a tutorial component for those who need extra lessons on selected topics; live teacher responses; mentorship; and teacher or student-led study rooms.

Parents will be asked to pay $5.00 per month or $60.00 per year for full use of the system. The Ministry of Education and Culture will cover the remaining costs per year for each student registered.

In delivering remarks, Minister for Education and Culture, Honourable Myron V. Walwyn said, “This opportunity provides parents with an ideal way to monitor their children’s progress and to be in a position to be in constant communication with teachers. This is an excellent opportunity to improve academic performance as it is used to measure progress and help to improve weak areas.”

Honourable Walwyn also said that technology is a key component in the teaching and learning process in schools and it is imperative that the Virgin Islands take advantage of it to improve the learning outcomes of students.

General Manager of Digicel, Mr. Kevin Gordon declared his commitment to the Ministry of Education and Culture and expressed gratitude “to have been able to partner with such a visionary and hard-working group of individuals”.

Through the partnership with Digicel, the Government of the Virgin Islands will give access to 4,100 users, which will cover students and teachers of public and private schools, as well as independent users.

Self-learners desirous of achieving a high school diploma will have the content available to do their studies independently, get tutorials to help them and will soon be able to sit the necessary exams to achieve their diploma.

The Ministry of Education and Culture is committed to creating a “Culture of Excellence” in all the Territory’s educational institutions.
