Minister for Communications and Works, Honourable Kye M. Rymer has announced that the residents of Jost Van Dyke have been reconnected to the British Virgin Islands Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) grid.

Honourable Rymer said electricity was restored this evening after efforts were being made for some time to reconnect the residents to the grid. He added, “The favourable weather and calm waters have allowed divers to make some strides in the restoration efforts, to completion.”

General Manager for BVIEC, Dr. Neil Smith said that the team at BVIEC worked feverishly to get the sister island back on to the grid.

“We made one of the required joints in the subsea-cable yesterday, Thursday, February 15 and a joint on the land-side to connect the cable to the grid,” the General Manager said. He added, “We then commenced the necessary testing and energised the cable. We really wanted to restore the sister island on to the grid today, Friday, February 16, and I am grateful to the dedication of the team at BVIEC seeing this through.”

The British Virgin Islands Electricity Corporation remains committed to delivering an exceptional customer experience by fostering partnerships and safely developing the Virgin Islands, through the provision of sustainable, innovative energy solutions at an affordable cost.
