The Isabella Morris Primary School is the recipient of over two hundred books courtesy of the Rotary Club Sunrise of Road Town.

The books will be added to the school’s Library and Resource Centre in an effort to promote early literacy.

Principal, Mrs. Keturah Smith said that in November during the Advent Term of the 2015-2016 school year, a book drive was launched.

Mrs. Smith said, “The purpose of the book drive was to refurbish the school’s Library and Resource Centre in order to create a more pleasant, informative and fun-filled learning experience for the students and to make the centre more useful and accessible to both students and staff.”

The books were recently handed over to the school in a ceremony witnessed by Schools’ Governance and Liaison Officer, Mr. Arthur Selwood, the Principal, staff, parents and students. Students recited poems, performed dramatisations, and sang songs that expressed their joy for reading and love of books.

Principal Smith thanked the Rotary Club Sunrise of Road Town and the other stakeholders for their kind and generous contribution to the school’s library. She welcomed their continued participation in the growth and development of the school.

Rotarian, Mrs. Ann Syrett said when she learned that Principal Smith was seeking books for the centre, she was inspired to contact a fellow Rotarian and old friend in Salem, Massachusetts to seek assistance.

Mrs. Syrett said, “My fellow Rotarian and friend, Mr. Ken Van Osdol responded wholeheartedly, spearheading the collection and shipment of nearly 300 books.”

The Rotary Club Sunrise of Road Town was formed on March 31, 2009 and continues to partner with the Isabella Morris Primary School to further support and encourage the school’s students and staff.

Rotary International is an international service organisation whose purpose is to bring together business and professional leaders to provide humanitarian services, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.

The Ministry of Education and Culture continues to support the Isabella Morris Primary School through its literacy efforts and congratulates the Rotary Club Sunrise on its contribution to the school.
