Forty-Three (43) Human Resources Professionals from across the Public Service have received training and inspiration during a one-day retreat on Scrub Island.

The group, comprising of individuals from the Department of Human Resources, and ministerial human resources teams, spent the beginning of November 2 learning how to manage stress and tiredness.

Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Sharleen DaBreo-Lettsome, MBE, presented the new vision for the Department of Human Resources, as well as the newly introduced plan for the government’s Human Resources Programmes to the public officers.

Mrs. DaBreo-Lettsome said, “It is vital that these professionals, who are responsible for the wellbeing of all public officers, know just how much they matter to us, and that they consistently receive opportunities for growth and development.”

The attendees also received a presentation from Attorney at Law, Maya Barry, of the Attorney General’s Chambers. During this session, the human resources professionals honed in on various legal implications, best practices, and were able to seek out advice on situations they may face on a daily basis.

The attendees said their session on “Making It Work” by Pastor Devon Penn inspired, ignited and helped to recharge their love for the crucial work that they do. According to attendees, Pastor Penn delivered a riveting and eye-opening message on viewing their roles not as Human Resources Managers, but healthy relationship managers.

Focus was placed on ensuring the public officers understood how appreciated they are for the work they do throughout the retreat, and how vital their contributions are to the success of the Public Service.

The one-day training retreat is the genesis of a comprehensive plan that aims to reform the Government’s Human Resources functions, with initial focus being placed on the professionals dispatched throughout the service.

The Government of the Virgin Islands remains committed to the development of its Human Resources Programme, and the individuals tasked with guiding its development.
