Public Officers on the Sister Islands will for the first time have access to Human Resources Management and customer support services as the Government of the Virgin Islands continues to transform the Public Service.
Human Resources Manager in the Deputy Governor’s Office Ms. Joycelyn Walters has been assigned to provide these services for the Sister Islands effective Monday, July 20.
In her extended role, Ms. Walters will offer support to each ministry’s Human Resources Manager in assisting with matters relating to public officers on the Sister Islands.
The added responsibilities will allow her to be based on Virgin Gorda and offer assistance to the Sister Islands Coordinator in enhancing service delivery, while continuing to serve the Human Resources Unit within the Deputy Governor’s Office.
Deputy Governor, Mr. David D. Archer, Jr. said this is a step in the right direction in the transformation of the Public Service.
Mr. Archer, Jr. said, “Having a Human Resources Manager specifically dealing with our cross-ministry Sister Island matters is unique and long overdue and will provide the needed attention to our public service departments and units on the Sister Islands. I have every confidence in Ms. Walters’ ability to effectively serve the Territory in this capacity.”
Director of Human Resources, Mrs. Michelle Donovan-Stevens added that the Department of Human Resources is continuously seeking ways to provide the necessary support to public officers who play an active role in the Government’s function on the Sister Islands.
Mrs. Donovan-Stevens said, “Ms. Walters has a wealth of knowledge and experience in Human Resources Management that will certainly be beneficial to this position and I believe that she will serve our Sister Island communities well.”
Ms. Walters joined the Public Service’s Department of Human Resources in 1997 after receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Management. She has been serving as the Human Resources Manager for the Deputy Governor’s Office since 2016. Ms. Walters is keen on extending her current responsibilities to support the work of the ministries as well as the area of service delivery.
