The Government of the Virgin Islands, as part of ongoing efforts to protect the community from Dengue Fever and Chikungunya, will commence a round of fogging on Anegada and East End, Tortola.

Fogging on Anegada will be carried out on Wednesday, November 18.

On Monday, November 23, fogging will begin on Tortola in East End/Long Look and surrounding areas to Shepherd Hill, Parham Town, Major Bay, Long Swamp, Fat Hogs Bay, Old Plantation, Nottingham Estate, Little Dix, Greenland, Lambert Estate and Balsam’s Ghut from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. until all communities are fogged.

Persons with respiratory illnesses, particularly asthmatics, should leave the areas being fogged for at least an hour.

Residents are reminded that fogging only provides temporary relief from the mosquitoes. Householders and property owners must be vigilant in preventing mosquitoes from breeding in stagnant water around their homes and businesses. Inspections should be done weekly.

For further information on how to control the Aedes aegypti mosquito, telephone the Vector Control Unit of the Environmental Health Division at 468-5110.

The Environmental Health Division is committed to ensuring that all aspects of the environment with the potential to negatively impact health are managed efficiently to enable all persons in the BVI to attain and maintain optimal health and social well-being.
