The Eslyn Henley Richiez Learning Centre has announced that its students, aged 16 years and older, are embarking on a Workforce Job Apprenticeship Programme.

Five students namely Rawlston Williams III, Jaquan Wintz, Kimani Smith, Mya Donavon and Shamario Patrick are enrolled in the apprentice programme this year and will be exposed to a wide range of career pathways, enabling them to make informed decisions about their future.

The students will work alongside professionals in their chosen fields, learning from their expertise and gaining valuable insights into the industry. The apprenticeship programme will not only enhance their technical skills but is expected to foster personal growth, independence, and a strong work ethic.

Minister for Education, Youth Affairs and Sports Honourable Sharie de Castro stated, “Inclusive education is at the forefront of our commitment to diversity and equality, and this initiative aligns seamlessly with our vision for an education system that empowers every student. By championing apprenticeships for differently abled students, we are not only cultivating a more inclusive society but also recognising the unique talents and capabilities of every individual.”

Acting Chief Education Officer, Mrs. Orlandette Crabbe said she is thrilled to see schools collaborating with the business community.

Mrs. Crabbe said, “By forging strong partnerships, we will integrate real-life experiences into our educational framework, providing invaluable opportunities for all students. This not only enhances the quality of education but also ensures that all students are well-prepared to transition seamlessly from school to the dynamic world of work.”

Principal of the Eslyn Henley Richiez Learning Centre Ms. Magdalene Allister said the programme aims to provide students with valuable real-world experiences, equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in their future careers.

Ms. Magdalene Allister said, “The Eslyn Henley Richiez Learning Centre seeks to prepare its students for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. By participating in the Workforce Job Apprenticeship Programme, students will develop a deeper understanding of the demands and expectations of the workforce, ensuring a smooth transition from education to employment.”

Meanwhile, Education Officer with responsibility for Special Education Mrs. Afiya Smith, emphasised the ministry’s ongoing commitment to fostering inclusivity and providing opportunities for accessibility and equity for students with exceptionalities.

Mrs. Smith said, “The ministry continues to strive towards creating an inclusive environment for all students to thrive. The apprenticeship programme has also been extended to students with unique needs at our public secondary schools. We would like to thank those businesses that have partnered with us thus far and we invite others to join this initiative.”

The Ministry of Education Youth Affairs and Sports remains committed to reimagining education and ensuring that all students are afforded opportunities to succeed.
